Ford Fair 2006 promised as always to be a big busy event, the only question was would the weather hold out? and on Friday afternoon another question arose...could I find a replacement Brake master cylinder for my Supersport, fit it, bleed it etc before the show?, as well as fitting in a stag do and work in as well. Fortunately the answer to both questions was a resounding YES! so it was all go!, in previous years Ford Fairs popularity has caused delays getting in and the last thing you want is to sit in a queue cooking your car ,a few people (Kym & Steve) have has this fun before, so we all decided to get there early. Matt found the strains it puts on the cooling system when his fan switch decided to melt on the way in this year but he made it and a bit of wire shorting it out had him set up for his trip home (hope you made it Matt).
This year is the 30th year of the Fiesta so we were put in an area supposedly surrounded by other Fiesta based clubs, but of course we were the ONLY Fiesta based club to be seen on , the Diamond parking made a semi comeback and looked good, and with out new telescopic flagpole it made it nice and easy to find your way back to the stand too. We had a great range of cars on display, Supersport, Fly , XR2 , Turbo , and even a MK2 Pickup which looked superb! , the standard of cars was very high and reflects everyone's hard work they obviously put into getting ready for the show. We also had a KA and Racing Puma on the stand as a reminder we are a club for ALL Fiesta based cars , both cars looking glorious in the sun shine.
Coming to Silverstone means there was track time to be had and both Kym and George took advantage of it and went out for a blat round, unfortunately the session was cut short due to people not being able to keep their car on the track ( not our two drivers I hasten to add!) but still a very enjoyable time by accounts, with George doing a very good "Mummy" impression using tubagrip bandage to cover his arms (its a requirement to have covered arms on track)...nutter. Wandering about there was lots to see , including the 0-60 sprint, with virtually every sort of Ford having a go including a MK4 Escort dragster and RS200 which made some lovely noises!.
Lots of things to buy too with a large trade stand and auto jumble section , unfortunately unlike previous years the auto jumble was just that jumbled up with the other trade stands and there didn't seem as many stands there this year as in the past, but still plenty to choose from!.
Soon the presentations were done and it was time to go home , a big WELL DONE to Stuart Twite for winning his class in the concourse with the legend that is "BEX" his immaculate MK2 XR2. A huge thank you to everyone who helped out on the day getting the stand ready, taking all the equipment and running the stand, thanks to everyone who travelled a long way to make it and I hope to see you all there again next year!
